who am i & why should you listen to me
My name is Jose Tovar, a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps with 17 years of experience as a Firefighter Paramedic. I am also a LifeVac G.A.R.A. Global Airway Rescue Associate and an HSI Instructor, specializing in Choking First Aid. My background has equipped me to teach Choking First Aid Courses and emphasize the importance of Emergency Preparedness and First Aid Certification.
Experience Counts
I have used Choking First Aid in real-life situations, both on duty and off duty, and I'm proud to say that all of those individuals survived. I have encountered choking incidents where traditional choking first aid techniques were ineffective, necessitating paramedic-level care and secondary interventions.
Over the past two years, I have taught nearly 2000 adults and youth various essential skills, including CPR First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and a comprehensive Choking First Aid Course.
Through this training, I realized that Choking First Aid education and emergency preparedness in America are significantly lacking, and I decided to take action to improve this situation. Additionally, I advocate for the use of devices like LifeVac as part of our first aid certification programs to enhance safety.
Why
I am very passionate about Choking First Aid due to the real-world choking situations I have encountered. I've witnessed too many individuals hesitant to intervene and others lacking the skills necessary to assist. To address this, I developed a Choking First Aid Course (CFAC) aimed at educating, equipping, and training people to respond effectively in a choking emergency. This course is a vital component of emergency preparedness and is essential for anyone pursuing First Aid Certification. Additionally, I emphasize the importance of tools like LifeVac in such situations.

It teaches you how to effectively use two different suction-based choking relief devices, which are recommended in the American Red Cross guidelines when standard choking first aid has failed or is no longer an option. The American Red Cross's Scientific Advisory Council supports this approach. No other choking first aid course covers these topics in such a comprehensive manner. The CFAC addresses a variety of choking emergencies that are seldom included in most first aid certification programs. Additionally, we offer monthly LIVE video calls for the entire CFAC community. You can retake the course and access updates without any additional cost—unless you choose to cancel your profile and leave the community. You do not need to buy any equipment before starting this course. It would be a good idea to participate in the Life Community Chat, monthly Live Video Calls & finish the entire course. Then decide what choking rescue/anti choking devices, training equipment, dolls/manikins you or your family/group may want to buy and train with. Then retake the course (this is included in your course fee) with the equipment you choose and incorporate it into the training aspects of the course.
The translation process of text, audio/videos, and my Choking First Aid Community are going to be multi faceted and very difficult. I am currently working on how to have this done. I will get it done, but it will take a few months.
